Our Story

We don't fund slogans.
We fund families.

Be A Badass started in a living room with a stack of Badass Bags and a list of patients in active treatment. We’re survivors, caregivers, and friends who got tired of awareness campaigns that don’t actually land in anyone’s hands. Cures take decades. People in treatment need help today. Badass Bags help patients reclaim their health along their breast cancer journey.

What we stand for.

Tangible. A blanket. A care kit. A tuition check. We fund things you can hold, not concepts.

Family-first. When a parent gets diagnosed, the whole family is in treatment. We support the kids, too.

Direct. 100% of donations go to patient goodie bags and family scholarships. No middlemen, no fluff.

Meet Wendy

Cancer Survivor and BeaBadass Owner Wendy

For those who don’t already know me, my name is Wendy Bechen. This is my breast cancer survivor story and how the ‘Be a Badass’ non-profit came to be.

I was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer on June 19, 2025, one day prior to leaving on a 10-day trip to the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals. The timing made things interesting to say the least, but God always has a plan. The trip gave me ample time to research my diagnosis and make a list of questions for my doctors when we returned.

During the call when I learned I had cancer, my doctor shared with me that one in every eight women will have breast cancer. From that moment on, every time I walked into a room, I would look around and count the women and be struck by how many women there had, have, or would have breast cancer based on that number.

I also found that when you are diagnosed with cancer, you become a member of a ‘club’ no one should ever be a part of, but ends up being an invaluable source of help and strength. My friends who were breast cancer survivors or going through the journey themselves began to reach out right away. Each person’s input helped me to prepare for my journey through a double mastectomy, chemo treatments, reconstruction surgery and the healing process.

The internet can be a great resource, but also incredibly overwhelming during a time when there is so much information to absorb and process. Having first hand experiences and hacks shared by my friends was so appreciated. The benefits of ozone treatment, Ivermectin and Fenbendazole were shared with me to help me stay healthy during a time when my body was most vulnerable.

I learned to use whip cord from the barn to build a lanyard to hold drain tubes when undressed. Another gifted me a homemade pillow that was 10 times better than any that we bought online. Rather than spend money on special clothing, friends showered me with button down shirts with pockets that are perfect for holding drain tubes.

While I was beginning my journey, other friends and neighbors were busy planning an amazing benefit to help alleviate our financial concerns. I was humbled and blown away, and it really changed how we could navigate my cancer journey and ultimately begin this non-profit.

Be a Badass’ came from a sleepless night my husband had, worrying about what lay ahead. He knew that we as a family were going to go through struggles and would need to keep our faith in God and trust in each other to stay strong. Thus, the mantra ‘Be a Badass’ was born and is now a non-profit we started to help others.

I will forever be grateful to every single person that helped me to successfully conquer the little “c” and reinforce my faith in the “BIG C”. I was so touched by those friends that came forward and shared with me, that it sparked a passion and a desire to help others through their breast cancer journey. When you are diagnosed, it is a super scary and overwhelming time, and having someone there to give a hand-up means so much.

From the items and support that I was blessed to have shared with me by other survivors, I was called to put together “Be A Badass” bags to give to others to help them on their journey with breast cancer. The bags will have all the helpful things so you don’t have to go shop for what you need, we can just hook you up with it all in one place.

In addition to the bags, we want to use our non-profit to help kids of breast cancer patients. The reality of cancer is that not just the person with cancer is affected, the entire family goes through it. Simple things like taking kids to camps, practices and events become more difficult. We want to help by sponsoring youth to attend 4-H and Basketball Camps so they can maintain a sense of normalcy.

Be a Badass’ is so much bigger than just me and my story. If we can help in even the smallest way to bring comfort, encouragement and dignity to breast cancer patients going through this journey, my vision will be a success. We cannot sustain this on our own, however. My hope is that everyone sees how helpful a “Be A Badass” bag can be and how we can bring some light to people’s lives as they go through cancer. We would greatly appreciate donations from those who are called to do so to help us impact cancer patients’ lives.

Please explore our site, share it with your friends and family; post it to your socials, and don’t forget to click that donate button. Your donation to our nonprofit is a write-off to use on your taxes and helps us to touch more lives. It would be amazing to reach our goal to get enough support so we can begin to give out scholarships to families that are going through hard times.

No matter what you are going through or the struggles life may throw your way, remember to always ‘Be a Badass’!
